Acupuncture
A Holistic Approach to Health & Wellness
Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that originated in China over 2,500 years ago. It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote natural healing and balance. Acupuncture is widely used to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
How Acupuncture works
According to TCM
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body has 14 channels also known as meridians which create an energy flow through the body. Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of traditional chinese medicine and this technique is used to balance the flow of energy. This energy is known as Qi (“chee”). When there is a disruption of the flow of Qi it can lead to dis-ease. Acupuncture is performed through the stimulation of these points along the meridians with the use of thin needles. This can improve the flow of Qi which improves health by rebalancing the body.
According to Research
From a modern medical perspective, acupuncture is believed to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissues, enhancing blood circulation and triggering the release of natural painkillers such as endorphins

Five Element Theory
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), healing begins by observing nature, its rhythms, its patterns, its balance. The Five Element Theory is one of the foundational philosophies of acupuncture and provides a deeply intuitive lens through which we understand health, illness, and vitality.
The Five Elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water: reflect both the natural world and the inner landscape of our bodies, emotions, and energy. When these elements are in harmony, we experience balance. When one becomes depleted or overactive, symptoms can arise physically, mentally, or emotionally.
Pulse & Tongue Diagnosis in Acupuncture
Pulse & Tongue Diagnosis in AcupunctureTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers unique and time-honored methods to understand your health from the inside out. Two essential tools we use during your acupuncture visit are pulse and tongue diagnosis.
What Is Pulse Diagnosis?
Your acupuncturist will gently feel the pulse on both of your wrists. Unlike a typical Western pulse check that focuses only on rate, TCM pulse diagnosis examines qualities such as depth, strength, and rhythm across multiple positions that correspond to different organ systems. This helps us identify imbalances and tailor your treatment plan to your unique needs.
What Is Tongue Diagnosis?
In TCM, the tongue is considered a mirror of your internal health. During your visit, we’ll observe the color, shape, coating, and moisture of your tongue. Each area of the tongue reflects different organs and functions of the body, giving important insights into patterns of disharmony.
Why Does It Matter?
- Together, pulse and tongue diagnosis help us:
- Understand the root cause of your symptoms
- Identify patterns of imbalance before they manifest as serious illness
- Customize your acupuncture and holistic care plan for the best results
These diagnostic tools are part of what makes acupuncture a truly individualized and holistic approach to wellness.
